Trestleboard

June 2006

From The East

Brothers and friends all, as you read this, I will be going to, attending or just back from Grand Lodge in Orlando, depending on when the TrestleBoard gets mailed.

I want to touch on attendance of Lodge functions this month. I know
that most all of us have a "full plate" and once out of the habit it is hard to start anything again, be it exercise, dieting, church, or attending Lodge functions. It is disheartening, not only to me, but to all the Officers, members, and guest to see such dismal turnouts at our meetings. The Brothers attending Lodge make every effort to see that everyone is welcomed and that we have refreshments at the 1st meeting and a good, if not fancy, meal at our 2nd meeting with the Ladies attending. It is impossible to plan for any meal, be it sandwiches, or a sit down supper (I'm from the South) when we never know how many to plan for. We want everyone to have plenty to eat and by doing so we always have to throw food away. If we could count on 30 on a given night, it would not be hard to plan for extra, but when only 8 show up; it's a big waste. I don't know what the answer is. Maybe the Brothers not attending could tell us!!!! Better yet, try to attend!

From The South

There seems to be so little time to get things done this time of year, but things are moving along quite well with the catechism work with our two new brothers. If all goes well, we have a tentative date of June 15 for the examination and the Fellowcraft degree. This, of course, depends on many things, especially Brother Taylor's wife having her baby, and everything going well. We will keep them in our prayers and wish them health and happiness for all.
The summer is upon us, but there are many things in the
works for the fall and winter. One big thing is the Christmas Bike Giveaway. Brothers, I need help with this massive chore. Anyone of the Brothers, even those that I have not had the pleasure of meeting, sure are welcome to help out. This is a great event for the Lodge, and brings joy to those who help and those who receive.

Brother Paul Sullivan
